A new study from the University of Washington finds that older gay men and older lesbians are more likely to have heart attacks, back pain, asthma, cancer and chronic health issues.

The lead researcher, Karen Fredriksen-Goldsen, states “The strong predictors of poor health are discrimination and victimization.”

We’ve seen many studies over the years indicating stress takes a toll on a person’s health.  Now we have proof the stress of living in a homophobic society is shortening our lives.

The only remedy to counter this assault is building strong emotional connections.  In other words, to overcome what makes us lonely.
